Cuestionarios, formularios e interrogatorios oficiales para probanzas de nobleza e ingresos en las Ordenes Militares de Caballería durante la España renacentista y barroca
Alvarez de Toledo Pineda, Guillermo

Knights and noblemen formed the lower and intermediate classes of the minority nobiliary base in the Renaissance and Baroque Spain. To accede to it or to prove their inherited belonging, claimants had to answer official forms and questionnaires in tuq presence of civil servants andd qualified authorities.

Their social status was privileged and enviable. Everybody agrees on this point. But, although generically, they were -as noblemen- equal; were they so in everything? Dith they consider themselves equal? This is what must be qualified, as sources exist which would suggest that it would be feasible to set up delailed and more completed social strata between both nobiliary classes, a gap left unfilled until now.
