Carro Suárez, Manuel Francisco; Fernández, J.; Gómez, A.; Haidl Dietlmeier., A. Parting from a description of the different parts (and their ways of functioning)involved in brain mechanisms, this article tries to defend the thesis that speech comprehension and production have to be considered as forming part of the whole complex brain system, where a series of highly personal and individual factors come to bear. On its basis we try to show that the acquisition of a foreign language, in the sense of automatization of the grammar system, needs a kind of exposure which activates a maximum of brain functions, including those related to motivation and emotions (the latter part of right hemisphere processes). In the final part we outline some theoretical and practical consequencies that derive from this for curriculum design and the teaching of modern languages.
